Gerry began playing harmonica at the age of 5,with his earliest influence being Spike Jones. Later in life he has met Paul Butterfield, Charlie McKoy and even got to play with Sonny Terry and counts them as major contributors to his own style of playing. Hearing and meeting Jerry Garcia with the New Riders, and later, Buddy Cage, fired his interest in the pedal steel guitar.
He has been performing in bands in Ohio, California, the Virgin Islands, and Florida, ranging from jug, blues, country, folk, and rock and roll. His bands have shared billing with acts as diverse as Loretta Lynn, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Joe Walsh and Barnstorm, McKendree Spring, Lester Flatt, Hazel and Alice, The New Riders of the Purple Sage, and Gene Clark of the Byrds. He has played in several country and rock bands local to Ohio, including Good Company, The Immortal Porpoises, Buckeye Buscuit, Southern Freedom, the duo Weniger and Simon, Shameless Country, Dingtown, and several shows of 60 plus runs at the Carousel Dinner Theater.
